Firing Service

SaJo Ceramics offers a firing service for home potters. We fire at multiple temperatures; bisque, earthernware, midfire, stoneware and lustre/overglaze, in our electric kilns.

Turnaround is typically 2 weeks, but can vary depending on demand. We notify potters when their firing is completed with a courtesy text message.

Please ensure you have the relevant information on hand for your items including clay type and firing temperature. All pieces must have a distinguishing mark on the base, such as your name, initials, or symbol; this is so that we can sort the pieces after they are removed from the kiln. Sometimes a written description is also helpful. Glazed stoneware pieces must have their bases clean of glaze so as not to adhere to the kiln shelf during firing.

We have a number of different sized kilns and therefore can accommodate most pieces of various sizes; please call to obtain exact kiln dimensions and discuss large pieces. Please be aware the wait time can be longer for large pieces.

All oxidation firing is charged at $12 per kg (inc GST) per firing and is weighed after it has been fired unless the items to be fired require excessive time to load into the kiln such as tiny pieces and then there will be a surcharge of an additional $4.00 per kg.

We also offer a clear glazing service charged at $5 per kg which includes either earthernware or stoneware clear glaze applied to bisqued pieces.
